Out of rice (米切れ)
Out of rice = forced close for the day, with a manager pay cut. Press/Steam highlight the warning beep, red countdown band, and a temporary “out of rice / closed” notice as the signature failure state.
Why it happens so fast
- Rice needs ~30 minutes from wash to cooked — starting a pot after you are empty is too late.
- Lunch peak and phone takeout (pickup ~30 minutes later) keep draining cooked rice.
